Jessica Pegula Has Made a Surprising Decision After Her Deep US Open Run

Jessica Pegula gave fans plenty to celebrate during the 2026 US Open, but her latest decision after the tournament has taken the spotlight once again.

The American star produced another impressive run in New York, reaching the semifinals for the second consecutive year. Her journey eventually ended against Aryna Sabalenka, who defeated Pegula 7-5, 6-2 in the semifinal. Despite the disappointment, Pegula remained positive about her season and made it clear that she still believes there is plenty more to come.

But after such a demanding stretch of tennis, Pegula has now decided to step away from competition temporarily.

The 32-year-old withdrew from the Singapore Tennis Open, explaining that the physical demands of the US Open and the preceding hard-court swing had left her not quite ready to compete at the level she expects from herself. It was a decision that may have surprised fans, especially considering the momentum she had built during the summer.

Pegula had been extremely busy before arriving in New York. She reached the finals in Washington, D.C. and Cincinnati while also making the Round of 16 in Toronto. By the time she reached the US Open semifinals, she had played a remarkable number of matches in a relatively short period.

Her decision therefore represents more than simply missing another tournament. It shows how carefully she is managing the next stage of her season.

Pegula is still scheduled to return for the China Open, giving her an opportunity to reset before another important part of the WTA calendar. After fighting through tough matches and another deep Grand Slam run, some time away from competition could give her the chance to recharge and prepare for what comes next.

What makes the story even more interesting is that Pegula has already shown that she can bounce back from difficult moments. Her 2026 season has included major wins, deep tournament runs and another appearance in the latter stages of the US Open.

Although the first Grand Slam singles title of her career remains out of reach for now, Pegula’s consistency continues to make her one of the major names on tour.

For fans, the biggest question now is simple: What will Jessica Pegula look like when she returns?

After everything she has endured during this long season, her next chapter could be one of the most fascinating stories to follow.
