Jessica Pegula Makes a Stunning Decision After Her US Open Run — Here’s What Happens Next

Jessica Pegula’s remarkable 2026 season has taken another unexpected turn, and tennis fans are now wondering what comes next for the American star.

After battling her way into the US Open semifinals for the third consecutive year, Pegula has withdrawn from the Singapore Tennis Open, choosing to step away after an intense stretch of competition. The decision comes just days after her dramatic US Open campaign and highlights just how demanding the hard-court swing has been.

Pegula entered the US Open carrying significant momentum. She had already enjoyed deep runs during the American hard-court swing, including finals appearances in Washington, D.C., and Cincinnati. At the US Open, she continued that form by fighting past Emma Navarro in a thrilling quarterfinal.

Pegula lost the opening set against Navarro and then faced an early deficit in the deciding set. Instead of letting the pressure overwhelm her, she fought back to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and reach another Grand Slam semifinal. The victory also gave her her 50th win of the 2026 season, making her the first woman on tour to reach that mark this year.

Her semifinal against Aryna Sabalenka proved to be a different challenge. Sabalenka produced an extremely aggressive performance and defeated Pegula 7-5, 6-2, ending Pegula’s latest attempt to reach a Grand Slam final.

Despite the disappointment, Pegula’s tournament still added another remarkable chapter to her career. By reaching the semifinals, she became the first player in the Open Era to reach her first four Grand Slam semifinals after turning 30.

Now, attention has shifted toward the Asian swing.

Pegula announced that she would miss the Singapore Tennis Open after the physically demanding US Open period. She said she was disappointed to withdraw but did not feel ready to compete at the level she expects from herself.

The decision also comes with the WTA Finals race entering an important stage. Pegula currently sits third in the WTA Finals Race with 5,825 points, while she remains ranked No. 3 in the world.

Her next scheduled tournament is the China Open, one of two major WTA 1000 events during the Asian swing.

For Pegula, the story is far from finished. Her 2026 season has already produced major victories, Grand Slam milestones and another run deep into New York. Now, fans will be watching closely to see how she returns from this demanding stretch.
