There was a point when Anna Kalinskaya’s 2026 US Open campaign looked like another difficult chapter. Instead, it became a tournament that delivered one of the biggest milestones of her season.
Kalinskaya entered the tournament as the No. 21 seed and immediately began building momentum. She defeated Anna Blinkova in the opening round before overcoming Xinyu Wang in three sets. Then came the biggest statement of her campaign.
Facing No. 9 seed Elina Svitolina, Kalinskaya battled through a three-set contest and prevailed 6–3, 2–6, 6–3.
The win was important for another reason. Kalinskaya had reached the third round at the US Open in her previous appearances but had never progressed beyond it. This time, she finally broke through.
She then faced Emma Navarro in the fourth round. Navarro, playing confidently, won 6–4, 6–2 to reach the quarterfinals.
Still, Kalinskaya’s tournament had already delivered something significant. By reaching the fourth round, she completed a rare career milestone: reaching the second week of every Grand Slam tournament.
That achievement tells an important story about her development. Grand Slam success is not simply about one spectacular week. It is also about repeatedly putting yourself in position to compete deep into the biggest tournaments.
Kalinskaya has now shown that she can do exactly that.
The current WTA rankings list her at No. 22 in singles, with a 27–18 record in 2026.
