Gary Lineker has refuted claims of bias against Nottingham Forest on *Match of the Day* following their 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday. Speaking on *The Rest is Football* podcast, which he co-hosts with Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, the former England striker addressed complaints from Forest fans about the coverage of the match.
Forest secured their first win at Anfield since 1969, maintaining their unbeaten start to the season. However, some supporters were frustrated that their game wasn’t the first feature on *Match of the Day*, with Aston Villa’s comeback against Everton taking precedence.
Lineker explained: “Forest fans complained, saying ‘they’re going to have to say something nice about us, they’ll hate that,’ which is funny because one of our producers, Finchy, and our floor manager, Marco, are both big Forest fans.”
When asked by Richards how much control he has over the show’s running order, Lineker revealed that Nottingham Forest’s game had initially been planned to lead Saturday’s episode after discussions with editor Richard Hughes. “We thought Forest would definitely lead, but they ended up second,” he said.
Currently, Forest are sitting seventh in the Premier League and remain one of only five unbeaten teams this season. Meanwhile, for Liverpool, the loss marked their first defeat of the season ahead of their Champions League clash with AC Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday.
