Bitter Elland Road Exist regret as Summerville set to hand BIG question of departing leave if a starting position is not granted… Player already making a return wish not less than a month.
Crysencio Summerville recently revealed that two years ago, he told his father about his dream of one day playing for West Ham.
It’s clear that joining West Ham has been a long-held ambition for Summerville. Earning around £30k per week at the London Stadium (per Spotrac), he was signed for a bargain £20 million this summer (according to Florian Plettenberg), which is outstanding value in today’s market.
As reported by The Athletic, Summerville chose West Ham over other clubs this summer to ensure more consistent playing time.
“The attacker had interest from three other Premier League clubs but chose West Ham to secure playing time.”
However, the Dutchman has only played 140 minutes across all competitions this season, with just one start, coming in the Carabao Cup.
Is it too soon to wonder if Summerville is second-guessing his decision to join the Hammers?
Crysencio Summerville may be reconsidering his West Ham move
The bottom line is that if Summerville isn’t in the starting lineup against Chelsea on Saturday, he may have legitimate reasons to question head coach Julen Lopetegui.
Fans were surprised when Lopetegui started Tomas Soucek against Fulham, alongside Edson Alvarez and Guido Rodriguez in midfield. That decision backfired, and Summerville was brought on for Soucek at halftime. The former Leeds winger made an immediate impact with his speed and direct approach.
Lopetegui can’t afford to make the same mistake in his lineup. Soucek should start on the bench, with Summerville coming into the side on the left wing.
This would allow players like Lucas Paquetá or Carlos Soler to provide the necessary creativity in midfield.
Surely, Lopetegui sees this as the best option.
Crysencio Summerville could be a star for West Ham
Summerville brings exactly what West Ham needs right now—pace, enthusiasm, and dynamism.
He’s incredibly quick, and that speed is something the team needs across the front line.
In the long term, the ideal setup could be Jarrod Bowen playing through the middle, Mohammed Kudus on the right, Lucas Paquetá in the number 10 role, and Summerville on the left wing.
Summerville plays with a youthful exuberance and fearlessness that West Ham is currently lacking.
While he’ll need time to adjust to Lopetegui’s system and style at the London Stadium, there’s no doubt that once he settles in, Summerville could become a key player for West Ham.
The key is patience—from the fans, the coaching staff, and Summerville himself.
That said, if he isn’t in the starting XI against Chelsea, he would be justified in raising a few questions with Lopetegui.
