Sunderland boss Régis Le Bris arranged for several players to go out on loan over the summer, including Timothée Pembélé, Pierre Ekwah, Luis Semedo, Nectarios Triantis, and Nathan Bishop.

Australian centre-back Triantis, signed by Sunderland last summer from Central Coast Mariners, was loaned to Hibernian for the second half of the season. Despite a less-than-stellar first loan spell at Easter Road, Hibs decided to bring him back on loan again on deadline day.

Triantis played as a defensive midfielder in Hibs’ 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock over the weekend, where he earned praise from McManus for his performance. While McManus initially wasn’t excited by Triantis’ return on loan, he admitted that the Sunderland youngster played exceptionally well in the new role.

McManus also noted that Triantis nearly won the game for Hibs with a standout move where he dribbled past several players but was unlucky to hit the crossbar.

In his Daily Record column, McManus wrote, “The reaction to Triantis returning to Hibs on loan from Sunderland on deadline day wasn’t exactly enthusiastic. His first loan spell’s highlight was hilariously knocking out teammates Joe Newell and Will Fish with a mistimed free kick.”

“But the big Aussie was brilliant in the holding midfield role on Saturday and nearly took down Killie with a superb solo run that saw him hit the crossbar.”

Triantis will be eager to make an impression during his second stint at Hibs in hopes of breaking into Le Bris’ plans for next season.
