JUST IN: TOP rated Academy of Light with HUGE potential of being the Black Cats messiah now seal a loan deal after getting snubbed by EPL club.

Former Sunderland prospect Francis Okoronkwo has joined Salford City on loan for the season in League Two.

Okoronkwo was sold to Everton by Sunderland for approximately £1 million back in 2021, a move that left Sunderland’s Sporting Director, Kristjaan Speakman, expressing disappointment as the club was still in League One at the time.

During that period, Sunderland saw several of their young talents depart, including Joe Hugill, Logan Pye, Bali Mumba, Sam Greenwood, and Luca Stephenson.

Since his move to Everton, the 19-year-old forward has built a solid reputation in Premier League 2, scoring 10 goals in 39 appearances over the past couple of seasons, including one goal and one assist in two matches this season.

Upon joining Salford City on a season-long loan, Okoronkwo shared his excitement: “I’m buzzing. I came here during pre-season, and it was tough opposition. As soon as this opportunity came up, I thought, you know what, it’s a good challenge. I really want to come and play and impress the fans.

“I feel like I’ll fit into the team well—they play good football. I’ve talked to the Gaffer on the phone, and he believes in us. I feel like if I can bring my qualities, I’ll have a good season.

“I’m not just a big striker; I like to get on the ball and involve others. I’m not just going to score goals; I’m going to try and assist, play for the team, work hard, and see where it gets us.”
