According to reports from Voetbal International, Leeds United are leading the race to secure the services of PEC Zwolle’s highly-rated defender, Anselmo Garcia MacNulty. The 21-year-old, who previously attracted interest from Leicester City before their promotion to the Premier League, appears to be a prime target for Leeds as they prepare for the upcoming Championship season.

MacNulty, a Sevilla native, represents the Republic of Ireland’s under-21 team, having qualified through his maternal lineage. His footballing journey has taken him across various cultures, having played in Spain, Germany, and currently in the Netherlands’ Eredivisie, showcasing his versatility and adaptability.

While newly-promoted Southampton had previously expressed interest in MacNulty, it seems Leeds have taken the lead in the pursuit of the young defender.

MacNulty’s statistical highlights from last season paint a promising picture. According to FBref, the left-footed defender ranks in the top 17% for tackles among his peers in Europe, showcasing his defensive tenacity. Furthermore, he excels in aerial duels, ranking in the top 20% for aerial duels won, highlighting his strength and prowess in the air.

At just 21 years of age, MacNulty has ample time to further develop and refine his skills, making him an attractive prospect for Leeds as they aim to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League in the upcoming season.
