Sevastova, who returned to the WTA Tour this season after a long injury layoff, showed vintage form against Pegula. Using her signature mix of drop shots, slices, and intelligent court movement, she managed to dismantle Pegula’s power game and turn the match on its head.
Pegula, the current world No. 4, had built a comfortable lead in the second set and looked set to cruise into the next round. But Sevastova’s resilience and clutch shot-making in key moments turned the tide. Pegula’s unforced errors at critical junctures ultimately led to her early exit in Montreal.
