Taylor has built a reputation as an innovative offensive mind, particularly excelling at designing rushing attacks. Between 2020 and 2023, he served as offensive coordinator and running backs coach at William & Mary, where his offenses consistently ranked among the top rushers in the Colonial Athletic Association. His creativity earned him recognition as the AFCA FCS Assistant Coach of the Year in 2023.
Following that success, Taylor made the jump to the NFL, joining the Bills in 2024 as a defensive quality control coach under the guidance of Sean McDermott and Joe Brady—fellow William & Mary alumni. Although this role shifted him to the defensive side, his offensive acumen remains highly regarded.
Taylor’s path to Blacksburg arises after current OC Tyler Bowen left Virginia Tech to join Ohio State as an offensive line coach. That exit left Hokies head coach Brent Pry with a critical coordinator vacancy late in the offseason, prompting a quick and wide-ranging search.
Reports from FootballScoop indicate Taylor emerged as one of the finalists thanks to his versatile background—both as a dynamic offensive coordinator at multiple collegiate programs and his NFL experience.
