Emma Raducanu ‘excited’ by new coach Francis Roig as US Open preparations step up in Cincinnati

British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu is stepping up her preparations for the 2025 US Open, and she’s doing so with renewed energy under the guidance of Francis Roig, the former long-time coach of Rafael Nadal. After a string of coaching changes over the past two years, Raducanu appears confident and “excited” about the latest addition to her team.

The 22-year-old is currently in Cincinnati preparing for the WTA 1000 event, which will serve as a crucial warm-up ahead of the final Grand Slam of the year in New York. Speaking ahead of her first match, Raducanu expressed optimism about her work with Roig, calling him “one of the best minds in tennis.”

Fresh Energy and Renewed Focus
Raducanu’s partnership with Roig began quietly earlier this summer, but the results are already showing in her training and mindset.
“Working with Francis has brought a new sense of direction and clarity to my game. I’m excited about the progress we’re making, and Cincinnati is a great place to test that ahead of the US Open,” Raducanu said.

With Roig’s experience helping guide Nadal through numerous Grand Slam campaigns, Raducanu believes she now has the right structure to get back into WTA’s top 20 rankings.

Cincinnati Key to US Open Hopes
The Cincinnati Open, one of the biggest events leading up to the US Open, provides Raducanu a chance to fine-tune her form against the world’s best. After a stop-start 2024 season due to injuries and inconsistency, this summer stretch is critical to restoring her confidence and rhythm.

“It’s about putting in the match reps and trusting the process. Francis has already helped me a lot tactically and mentally,” she added.
The pair have reportedly been focusing on improving her serve consistency, rally patience, and aggressive baseline play — all key elements in succeeding on North American hard courts.

A Turning Point in Raducanu’s Career?
With the 2025 US Open fast approaching, many fans and analysts are watching closely to see whether this partnership could mark a turning point in Emma Raducanu’s WTA career. Her strong results in practice and increased stability off the court have sparked hope that the 2021 champion may be ready to make another deep run.

Whether she can replicate her Flushing Meadows magic remains to be seen, but with Francis Roig now in her corner, Raducanu’s comeback story just became one of the most compelling in women’s tennis.
