John Isner Gives Verdict on Iga Swiatek’s French Open Chances, Says Sabalenka and Gauff Are the Likely Favourites

As the 2025 French Open approaches, former American tennis star John Isner has weighed in on the women’s singles contenders. In a recent episode of the Nothing Major podcast, Isner expressed concerns about Iga Swiatek’s current form, noting that she is “not playing her best tennis right now.” Swiatek, a three-time Roland Garros champion, has not secured a title since her 2024 French Open victory and recently suffered a third-round exit at the Italian Open to Danielle Collins, ending her 26-tournament streak of reaching at least the Round of 16 in WTA 1000 events .

Isner highlighted Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff as the leading contenders for the title. Sabalenka has displayed dominance throughout the season, including a recent victory over Gauff in the Madrid Open final . Gauff, on the other hand, has shown significant improvement on clay, reaching the quarterfinals in Rome and expressing confidence in her enhanced movement and footwork .

While Swiatek’s past success at Roland Garros cannot be overlooked, her recent struggles and the rising form of Sabalenka and Gauff suggest a more open field this year. As Isner noted, Swiatek could still turn things around if she gains confidence in the early rounds, but the competition is fiercer than ever.
