Gauff Looks to Book Her Spot in the Semis Against Andreeva, While Sabalenka Aims to Keep Her Dominance Over Zheng Qinwen

The 2025 Italian Open quarterfinals promise thrilling matchups as Coco Gauff faces Mirra Andreeva, and Aryna Sabalenka takes on Zheng Qinwen.

Gauff, currently ranked world No. 3, has been in impressive form on clay, recently defeating Emma Raducanu 6-1, 6-2 to reach her third quarterfinal in Rome. She holds a 3-0 head-to-head record against Andreeva, including a straight-sets victory in Madrid last month. Gauff’s improved forehand and footwork have been key to her success, and she aims to continue her momentum heading into the French Open.

Andreeva, the 18-year-old rising star, has had a strong season with a 24-6 win-loss record. Despite her previous losses to Gauff, Andreeva’s aggressive baseline play and resilience make her a formidable opponent.

In the other quarterfinal, world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka faces Zheng Qinwen. Sabalenka leads their head-to-head 6-0, with all previous matches on hard courts. This will be their first meeting on clay, a surface where Sabalenka has excelled, winning titles in Miami and Madrid this year.

Zheng, ranked world No. 7, seeks her first victory over Sabalenka. Her powerful groundstrokes and improved movement on clay could pose challenges for the Belarusian.

Both matches are set to showcase high-level tennis as players vie for a spot in the semifinals and build momentum ahead of Roland Garros.
