Tottenham Eye Goalkeeping Reinforcements After Vicario Injury

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly targeting Burnley’s James Trafford or Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson as potential January signings to cover for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who is sidelined with a broken ankle.

Vicario sustained the injury during Spurs’ 4-0 victory over Manchester City last Saturday. Remarkably, he continued playing for the remaining 60 minutes despite the severity of the knock. The Italian has since undergone successful surgery and is beginning his recovery process.

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham are considering dipping into the January transfer market for a new keeper. Trafford, eager for a Premier League return following Burnley’s relegation, and Patterson, who has attracted attention from top clubs, are reportedly on the radar.

Vicario addressed his injury on Instagram, sharing his disappointment:
“I played 60 minutes at the Etihad with a broken bone in my ankle, giving absolutely everything I had for the team. Unfortunately, there was no way around this one—I needed surgery.

“I’m disappointed I won’t be able to help the team for a while, but the operation went well. From tomorrow, I’ll be working hard to come back stronger, fitter, and ready to give my all for you again. Thank you to the Spurs fans for all the love. See you soon on the pitch.”

Tottenham also issued an official statement:
“We can confirm that Guglielmo Vicario has today undergone surgery for a fracture of his right ankle. He will be assessed by our medical staff to determine when he can return to training.”

Spurs now face the challenge of finding a temporary solution between the posts as Vicario begins his journey back to full fitness.
