Road to European football remains high to the Reds after Evangelos Marinakis receive glimpse of possibilities to acing the signature of 2019 Champions League winner in January transfer window.
Nuno Espirito Santo has placed his trust in Matz Sels as Nottingham Forest’s first-choice goalkeeper, despite the summer signing of Carlos Miguel.
Sels acknowledged that joining Forest was a gamble, but it has paid off handsomely. Though he faced criticism earlier in the season for notable errors, the Belgian has bounced back and established himself as a key figure in goal.
However, questions about his long-term future remain, with Nottingham Forest reportedly considering potential upgrades during the next summer transfer window.
### Forest eyeing potential upgrade with Kelleher linked
Despite boasting the Premier League’s second-best defensive record, Forest is unlikely to make changes in January. Sels continues to earn international call-ups for Belgium, reflecting the consistency he has shown during the team’s strong run of form.
Speaking to *Nottingham Forest News*, Graeme Bailey suggested that Forest could explore options in the summer to strengthen their goalkeeping position.
“I don’t think Forest will look at a new goalkeeper in January. Sels has had a very good season, but they may still feel they can upgrade in that area come summer, depending on where they finish,” Bailey explained.
He also highlighted links to Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher, noting the possibility of a deal if Liverpool were to pursue Forest players like Murillo or Gibbs-White.
### Kelleher’s form at Liverpool
Kelleher has impressed for Liverpool in Alisson Becker’s absence, conceding just four goals in six matches across all competitions. However, with Alisson’s return, Kelleher might explore opportunities elsewhere as he seeks more regular playing time.
Liverpool reportedly value the 25-year-old at £30 million, a price that could be attractive for Forest next summer. At seven years younger than Sels, Kelleher represents a long-term option and a potential upgrade for the club.
