“Better than Johnson” lan Wrights insist Forest already stroke GOLD in Duo bought for a lesser fee.
Brennan Johnson has yet to live up to the £47.5 million that Tottenham spent on him just over a year ago. The 23-year-old winger has faced numerous challenges since his move to North London, struggling for consistency in his first season, and his second season has also started poorly, with heavy criticism directed at his performances.
In response to the abuse he’s received, Johnson deactivated his Instagram account following the North London Derby. Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou has come to Johnson’s defense, condemning the abuse and stating that the winger is working hard to improve his form (via Football.London). Postecoglou expressed confidence that the Wales international will ultimately prove his worth at the club.
Ian Wright Criticizes Johnson Before He Scores
Pundit Ian Wright recently remarked that Nottingham Forest made an excellent deal by selling Johnson for £50 million, suggesting that the club upgraded by signing Elanga and Hudson-Odoi for a combined £21 million. On the *Kelly and Wrighty Show*, Wright said, “Both players, if I’m being honest, and with no disrespect to Brennan, are better in terms of what they can produce right now.”
Johnson, however, responded perfectly to the criticism by scoring Tottenham’s winning goal in a dramatic late victory over Coventry City.
Spurs Web Opinion
Wright’s point is understandable, as Johnson has not contributed much to Tottenham recently and is clearly lacking confidence. However, at just 23 years old, Johnson still has plenty of time to turn things around, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him improve before the season ends.
