Côte d’Ivoire coach Emerse Faé has confirmed that defender Willy Boly will miss the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Chad due to injury, which could be concerning news for Nottingham Forest.

According to L’Avenir, Faé shared this update during a pre-match press conference ahead of the second match in the qualification campaign. Côte d’Ivoire currently sits at the top of the group after defeating Zambia, while Chad and Sierra Leone are tied for second place with one point each.

Boly, who was named to the squad, missed the victory over Zambia after being left out. It now appears that tests have shown the Nottingham Forest defender sustained a calf injury during training.

“Regarding Willy Boly’s absence, I’ll clarify: he was unfortunately injured in training just before our match against Chad,” Faé explained. “The medical examinations revealed a calf injury, so he is unavailable and has returned to his club for recovery.”

The focus now shifts to whether Boly will be sidelined for an extended period at Nottingham Forest, who will be hoping for a quick recovery.

The 33-year-old started the season for Forest in their match against Bournemouth but was benched during the 1-0 win over Southampton, playing just one minute, and remained on the bench for the 1-1 draw with Wolves.

Although Boly has not previously suffered from calf injuries, he did miss 85 days with a hamstring injury in the 2022/23 season and 20 days with a similar issue in 2021/22.

How long Boly will be out with this latest injury is uncertain, but his absence is part of a series of calf injuries affecting players during this international break, raising concerns about a potential new trend.
