JUST IN: Sunderland receive Double injury update to brilliant start to EFL season
Sunderland under-21 manager Graeme Murty has revealed that there is no set timeline for the return of Elias Lenz and Zak Johnson from their injuries.
Johnson sustained a minor injury during training last week, which kept him out of the under-21s game against Middlesbrough, the Liverpool match on Monday, and Sunderland’s Championship fixture against Portsmouth.
Meanwhile, summer signing Elias Lenz started against Middlesbrough but had to be substituted after a head injury, leading to his absence from the Liverpool game in Premier League 2.
When asked about their return, Murty stated, “There’s no specific timeframe. We’ll assess their recovery and ensure they return gradually. Elias is under medical regulations, so we must follow those protocols to ensure he’s fully ready. Zak’s issue came up in training, so we’re hoping it’s not too serious, but as always, we’ll rely on our medical team for guidance.”
Lenz joined Sunderland permanently this summer from RB Leipzig, where he captained their under-19 side for the last two seasons.
