Southampton are negotiating with Crystal Palace for winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who is also a Leeds United target. Sky Sports’ Lyall Thomas reports that Rak-Sakyi is interested in joining Russell Martin’s team.
The 21-year-old has had limited first-team opportunities at Palace, despite impressing on loan at Charlton Athletic. Southampton are showing strong interest, while Leeds are also in the mix.
Thomas states that Southampton are discussing a potential deal with Palace, offering to increase the purchase option on a loan agreement. Rak-Sakyi is open to the move.
Earlier reports from Alan Nixon suggested Southampton made an initial £7m offer, with Leeds considering a loan. Palace is reluctant to sell but might be swayed by a higher bid. Nixon also mentioned Southampton potentially raising their offer to £12m, though Palace prefers a loan to aid Rak-Sakyi’s development.
Regular playing time at Southampton could be attractive to Rak-Sakyi, who excelled in League One but hasn’t broken through at Palace. Roy Hodgson, former Palace manager, described him as ‘remarkable’.
Southampton’s interest in Rak-Sakyi comes alongside their pursuit of Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley. The Sunday Mirror reports that Southampton is eager to sign O’Riley, valued at £30m by Celtic. They face competition from clubs like Brighton but are willing to make a significant effort to secure the Danish player’s signature.
