Everton’s Beto Draws Interest from Bologna, Highlighting Potential Squad Concerns

Everton striker Beto, who joined the club last summer for £25.75m from Udinese, is reportedly attracting interest from Bologna. The 26-year-old had a challenging first season in England, scoring five goals and providing two assists in 37 appearances.

Despite his struggles, Beto showed flashes of potential, including a memorable solo goal against Newcastle United. His performance should be considered in the context of Everton’s overall offensive difficulties last season, as the team ranked lowest in open-play goals.

Beto’s statistics suggest he deserves another chance to prove himself. He excelled in defensive contributions and ranked well in key offensive metrics for strikers. With improved support, he could potentially increase his goal tally next season.

Bologna’s interest was confirmed by Sky Sports’ Alan Myers, who noted that Everton is not inclined to sell Beto, who is under contract until 2027. The Italian club, set to compete in the Champions League next season, may find Everton’s likely asking price of at least £25m prohibitive.

Everton’s reluctance to sell Beto may stem from concerns about their attacking options. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future uncertain and only young Youssef Chermiti as an alternative, selling Beto could leave the team short of strikers.

The club has made efforts to bolster its attack, signing Iliman Ndiaye and showing interest in wingers like Wilfried Gnonto and Jaden Philogene. However, retaining Beto could be crucial, especially if Calvert-Lewin departs.

As Everton aims to address its goalscoring issues from last season, the potential sale of Beto to Bologna presents a dilemma that could significantly impact the team’s squad composition and offensive capabilities.
