“He’s got more chance of staying over…..” Player with Zero Elland Road future now seem to have lifeline over injury Proned Star labelled as the ‘cornerstone’ of the club’s future said Daniel Farke.
Max Wober, currently representing Austria at the European Championships, has confirmed that Leeds United will discuss his future once the tournament concludes. This situation, along with Rasmus Kristensen’s uncertain status, has gained attention following Brenden Aaronson’s decision to return to Elland Road.
Aaronson has opted against a second consecutive loan spell after discussions with manager Daniel Farke about his role next season. With Jack Harrison and Marc Roca expected to finalize their departures soon, and Diego Llorente’s time at the club already over, only Wober and Kristensen remain from last summer’s loan group.
Journalist Graham Smyth, speaking on the Inside Elland Road Podcast, suggests that Wober’s relationship with Leeds supporters may be irreparable, making a comeback challenging. Smyth notes that Wober’s departure last summer, after being given the captain’s armband in a pre-season friendly, left a bitter taste among his teammates.
Despite Wober’s potential value in the Championship, the negative sentiment surrounding his exit may be too significant to overcome. Leeds already has Pascal Struijk, whom Farke considers a cornerstone of the club’s future, ready to return from injury in the left center-back position.
In contrast, Aaronson’s return fills a gap in the squad where Leeds lacked a specialist option, making his reintegration more straightforward. Given these circumstances, and considering Wober’s performances at Borussia Monchengladbach, Leeds should consider selling him this summer, even if it means accepting a lower fee than initially desired.
The club will likely want to avoid risking a toxic atmosphere among supporters from the start of the season. With potential interest in Wober from other clubs, a sale appears to be the most prudent course of action for Leeds United.
